Alternative ways to market vaping as an alternative to smoking

In order to market vaping properly, we in the vaping industry must be able to differentiate it from smoking. However, certain laws prohibit us from “health claims.” Additionally, it’s important to be able to relay the differences to consumers so all demographics are covered.

Here are three ways to market vaping as a smoking alternative.

“Switch it up!”

This marketing tactics targets smokers who are looking to make a change or to completely break the habit of smoking altogether. Let’s be clear, this doesn’t tell consumers that switching to vaping will ultimately help them quit smoking. This strategy is effective because smokers have more than likely heard of vaping as an alternative healthier option. However, you’re not blatantly telling consumers that vaping is a healthier option. This could also target those who don’t know much about vaping, creating an opportunity to educate.

“Quitting is hard, switching is easy”

For those who have ever tried to break a habit, you know it can be extremely difficult. Like smoking, quitting isn’t easy. And while some people can just stop cold turkey, others need an alternative option. The great thing about this tactic is, it’s evergreen: there are always going to be people looking to quit smoking. Marketing vaping as a “switch to quit” option is effective because you can tap into empathy with your marketing copy.

“Save money with vaping.”

It doesn’t matter if you’re the richest person on the planet, you’re going to be looking for ways to be frugal with your money. Telling consumers that vaping will be a money saver is a strong incentive to switch. This is probably one of the strongest tactics (aside from pushing it as a healthy option, which we can’t legally do), but with little to no liability. Now, the caveat is, every person’s smoking habit will vary. Therein, the cost will vary. Regardless, simple calculations (on the consumer’s part) can determine that quite easily.
